Summer Habitat Projects
We have are performing grassland management on five sites located on three WMA areas. These sites covert old-field habitat to native dominated grasslands for breeding and escape cover for upland game, waterfowl and other migratory birds and resident non-game species. The sites were planted in 2011 and require management to remove competition to ensure stand success. Two sites are still in old-field sod and will require site preparation, seeding and follow up management.
• Cannon River Wildlife Management area - 9.3 acres to be mowed three times this year to aid the new growth of prairie grass seed that was planted last year. Also, one acre will need trees cleared and prairie grass seeded by fall.
• Boyd Sartell Wildlife Management Area - 6.1 acres need trees cleared and prairie grass planted.
• Peat Bog Wildlife Management Area - 10.1 acres to be to be mowed three times this year to aid the new growth of prairie grass seed that was planted last year.

Rice County PF is looking for a few good acres
Rice County Pheasants Forever has the funds and resources for landowners who want to improve the habitat on their land. Believe it or not, the biggest problem is finding landowners who want to improve their habitat. Rice County PF has the ability to acquire low cost/high yield materials and services for habitat improvement for landowners.
2012 Food and Cover Plot Seeds
